Care
& Maintenance
WHEN
TO SEAL COAT: Typically it is done after
5-6 years. Some people like to seal coat before this time, however,
we recommend that you wait at least 12 months to give the asphalt
time to set up or cure.
EDGES:
To prevent edge breakage, have ground level equal to height of asphalt.
Driving over edge with heavy vehicles should be avoided. Edging
with rock, brick, borders is also helpful.
HOT
DAYS: Asphalt softens in hot weather. Caution should
be used in turning wheels of car while in a stopped position. You
can hose down the asphalt to cool and harden up the surface on very
hot days. New asphalt tends to be soft during the first year.
DEPRESSIONS:
During the first 6-12 month period of new asphalt application, care
should be taken in using jack stands or parking heavy equipment
or vehicles on surface. Depressions or tracks could occur during
this period or on very hot days.
